Admiralty LawADMIRALTY LAW.  K&W advises some of the Midwest's largest shippers on their transportation and related agreements with motor, rail and water carriers such as standard motor carriage agreements, bills of lading, other contracts of affreightment, service contracts and contracts to charter barge flotillas or ocean-going vessels.

As such, we are able to service the daily legal needs of small and mid-sized companies, which require their attorneys to balance their knowledge of the law with the practical aspects of business.


CIVIL LITIGATION.  K&W represents both plaintiffs and defendants in several areas of civil litigation. We have handled a wide array of civil litigation claims, including professional and medical malpractice, construction defect, consumer fraud, insurance litigation, RICO, landlord-tenant disputes, and claims involving personal injury.

 

COMMERCIAL LITIGATION.  K&W represents businesses in a wide variety of business disputes. We have achieved substantial victories for our clients in federal and state courts before both juries and the bench, and in mediation and arbitration proceedings. We pay particular attention to pre-litigation contract advice, an often overlooked but critical period for the strengthening of a claim or defense.

 

EMPLOYMENT LAW. K&W represents parties in the litigation of a wide variety of employment-related issues, including breaches of employment agreements; violations of ERISA; pension-related disputes; and discrimination based on gender, race, age, or disability.

REAL ESTATE AND CONTRUCTION. K&W actively represents buyers and sellers of real estate property, property developers and investors in numerous types of development projects. Principal among our real estate practice are cases involving brokerage commission disputes, "straw-man" transactions, commercial lease disputes, land acquisition disputes, and zoning or ordinance-compliance matters.
